I want the room to make you feel comfortable the second you enter. I also loved the sophistication, but with a girly touch in the details.
Being a lover of neutrals, I knew the nursery would follow suit. Robin’s egg blue has always been my favorite color, so when I started creating the design, it started around that color. I knew I wanted muted colors, soft textures, and a vintage feel. As I was mulling over my design, I came across a Dash and Albert floral rug that was blue with soft pink accents…it gave me the idea to bring in pink through my accessories. I immediately started creating an inspiration board focusing on robin’s egg blue, rose pink, gray and white paint colors.

I have always been drawn to a soft color palate. The moment you enter our home you are greeted with bright whites, soft blues and warm grays. It instantly makes me feel relaxed and refreshed…a feeling I hope all my guests feel when they arrive! When it comes to decorating, I like everything to work together, so I look for pieces that are neutral, not too heavy and have a unique or vintage texture. I love how I can find the perfect living room piece that complements a piece you might see elsewhere in the house.
My favorite things would have to be our custom chandelier using pearls from our wedding, the picture of my husband and I holding the baby’s shoes – that’s how we announced our pregnancy, the glider because it’s so comfortable and the bed! Oh god, I’m going to stop this, but I really love everything!!
Start with an inspiration board. It doesn’t have to be as fancy as the “inspiration board” sounds… just collect your ideas. Find a few key pieces, such as a rug or bed, and start from there. Add elements to the board that reflect colors, themes, or ideas you like, and keep them in mind as you guide. Also, don’t be afraid of white bedding…it’s machine washable and bleachable! Most of all, create a space that is special to you in some way and enjoy every moment with your baby making memories in that room…that’s what I plan to do in a few weeks! 🙂 While I love all the pale neutral nurseries people are doing these days, I wanted to take a different route when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. After all, these bold primary colors should be designated for children’s rooms as much as possible, right?

Since Greta is turning two, I’ve been sharing how I decorated her nursery. However, it won’t be her nursery for long, because we have another baby on the way! Greta is about to graduate from a big girl room, and I’ve already started work on redecorating one of our guest rooms for Greta’s new room. Can’t wait to share it with you when it’s done!

I decided that an emerald would be perfect for a child’s room (and not just because green is my favorite color). Of all the primary colors, I find green the most versatile. It’s colorful but calm, and also gender neutral, in case I need to change things up to accommodate a boy in the future.

Confession: I was really looking forward to upgrading the nursery for a boy, but with another girl on the way, and working on my focus (and getting ready for the holidays), I’m so happy. The only thing I have to trade in the nursery is now a name plate.
After deciding on the color of the room, which is on the dark side, I thought it would be best to make everything in the room as white as possible to balance things out and keep things bright and cheerful.
I originally wanted all the furniture to be white, but our close friends Tiffany and Mitchell generously offered to let us use their beautiful wrought iron shade. We couldn’t turn down a free pillow (or whatever other hand-me-downs people were willing to give us), so everything in her room is pretty much white except for the crib.

I wanted to do some colorful pink flower beds and window treatments. I couldn’t find a ready-made bedding set that I liked at any retail store or on any website, so I decided to make it myself. I found this amazing modern floral print on spoonflower.com (ok, I don’t buy everything on fabric.com, but 99% of my fabric comes from there). I loved that it had a soft watercolor look but had a nice mix of bold colors and pastels that I could use as well. I ended up making the bed skirt, railing and curtains for $150!

As for the rest of the room, I bought a rocking chair from Target because I knew I wanted a nice, comfortable chair to sit in for evenings with the baby. The rug choice was a compromise with Will (I wanted something more expensive), but I like it. For the changing table, I found an old chest of drawers at the thrift store to recycle (see this project here ).

For accents, I found some black and white bunny prints on Etsy to go on the changing table. I also used some prints from an old Lilly Pulitzer planner and put them in small frames to make a fun collage on the wall. Bailey gave me the rubber rack (above the changing table), which I painted white with Amy Howard One Step Paint to match the dresser.

The chandelier in the room was given to me by my mother. It was something he bought overseas and never used in our old house. I want to use it in our home, so I thought the nursery would be a great place for it!
