Casual Coffee Table Decor
Casual Coffee Table Decor – Love the chic coffee table decor! After taking a good look at the two coffee tables in our house, I realized that there are five decor items that I use all the time, and I’m going to share one of those coffee table decor ideas with you today!
I always use a large tray on my coffee tables. Always. I love how they keep everything neatly organized and if you want to clear your coffee table for playing games or cooking, you can just lift the tray and take everything out. Trays are a great way to add some contrasting texture or color to keep things interesting.

For our family room coffee table, I went with a large 28″ square wooden tray that takes up most of the coffee table but leaves room for my husband to put his feet up (we keep a special “leg pad” around. do that with him – lol!):

I had a hard time finding an oversized square tray that I liked, but I finally found the perfect one on Etsy. The store I bought it from is no longer there, but you can find an almost identical tray here. They are offered in a variety of colors in a velvet matte or glossy glossy finish. A tray this big is expensive, but I’ve had it for years. I like that if I change my color scheme in the future I can just paint it instead of buying a new tray.
On our living room ottoman/coffee table, I often use light woven pots to add a little sparkle and texture. What I like most is the great size and great price for such a large bowl:

FYI, be sure to add felt pads under the woven trays to avoid scratching your coffee table! These are other cute coffee table pots that work beautifully (
I use flowers and natural elements in my home because they bring life in a way that nothing else can, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of my favorite coffee table decor ideas! In summer, when tons of flowers bloom in our yard, I put small bouquets of fresh flowers on our coffee table:
You can add more life and personality by adding flowers to something like this copper swan planter that I’m obsessed with:

If you don’t have flowers to cut from your yard, pick up a $5 bunch of tulips at the grocery store or add a low-maintenance plant. This snake plant on our living room coffee table is the best—seriously no-kill:
At the end of our coffee table is a pile of books – another way to bring nature into this space.
There’s no shame in going Fox! I recently bought a Raspberry and the two of them make a nice little system:

And after moving my snake plant upstairs, I’m using these three fake eucalyptus branches (found) in our living room:
You can also use other natural elements to add life – pine cones, feathers or a bowl of marine elements such as driftwood, shells and coral are just a few ideas. The best thing about natural ingredients is that you can find and use them right outside your doorstep for free!
Books are one of my favorite coffee table decor ideas. They’re perfect for adding a layered look, and it’s nice to have some interesting coffee table books that your family and guests can pick up and read. Being a design junkie (big surprise) most of my focus is on design. Other good choices are books about the area you live in, your favorite state or country to vacation in, or your favorite hobby.

About taking a bunch of photos from your phone and computer and – that’s my future coffee table goal! If you want to add color or pattern to your coffee table, a simple way to do it is to use scraps of a favorite fabric:
If you’re a design geek like me and looking for great coffee table books, here are some books that have great content and look great (
Along with some stacked coffee table books, I always add a book or two. These can be anything from the large gold hook I used in my fabric-covered book above, to a decorative magnifying glass or a small piece of coral:

Decorative boxes are great! There are so many great options and they’re great for storing things you don’t want cluttering up your desk. On our family room coffee table, I have photo flash drives in the compartment for extra TV remotes, light remotes, and the occasional laptop I need:
Once you’ve got these basics down, it’s time to have fun and add some quirky things you love! For me, it’s brass animals like this pair of brass faucets (similar ones available) (#obsession):

But for you, it could be something related to your favorite hobby or an artifact that has some historical and special meaning. Put it all together and you have a coffee table that is the star of your space!

This month our inspiration photo comes from Yvonne at Stonegable who shared her summer open house tour. It is a sight to behold!
Yvonne always has professional decorating tips and interior design secrets on her blog. I promise you’ll be glad you visited.
In my vignette below, I explain how I took elements from Yvonne’s photo and created my own version using materials I had on hand.
Impeccable Coffee Table Décor For Your Stylish Home
Using Yvonne’s tray decor as a starting point, I went shopping around the house. I identified six key points that I wanted to echo in my vignette:
Luckily, I have quite a few of these items in my inventory, although I admit most of them aren’t on my coffee table…yet!
You’ll notice I’ve tweaked a few items, but the effect is pretty much the same. Can you see where I made the substitutions?
