My vintage Christmas tablescape started when my boyfriend and I were shopping for Christmas ornaments and we discovered the most beautiful oversized bell ornaments with an adorable vintage scene inside. We started talking about how cool they would look on a table setting… and that got me thinking. I began envisioning soft colors, twinkling trees, and mercury glass coming together to create an elegant yet subtle vintage Christmas table setting.

Creating A Beautiful Christmas Table

As a starting point, I gathered some of my favorite matte green and bottlebrush trees and began assembling the centerpiece.

I used a cable knit table runner as the base and layered glittery fir branches and holly leaves down the center of the table. I added some pine cones and a soft green garland down the length of the table to give the centerpiece more height and width.

I sprinkled sequins and glitter ornaments along the length of the table and then added glittery pear and mercury glass ornaments. And of course those beautiful vine ornaments on each side of the table.

Finally, I grouped five glossy bottle brush trees of varying heights in the center of the table to add some height and drama to the look.

I love the soft, vintage Christmas look and subtle color palette of this centerpiece that has just the right amount of sparkle and glitter.

The other thing I saw at my friend’s place that day was mercury glass jewelry with a beautiful silver band in the middle. We talked again about how beautiful they would look on the set table,

I wanted a simple place setting with a little glitter element to incorporate the vintage look so I used a Vitry glass charger as a base.

I placed a woven plate on the charger and used a plain cream napkin to coordinate with the table runner.

How To Style The Best Christmas Coffee Table Decor

On each napkin I placed one of these pretty mercury glass ornaments. I filled the bottom of each ornament with a marshmallow and then topped it with two yummy chocolates.

I added a simple silk ribbon to the top of the ornament and left them open at each place setting.

I love surprising any place with a sweet treat inside a beautiful ornament. It’s a lovely way to greet guests and give them something to remember the evening by.

I decorated each place setting with vintage cutlery and etched glassware to create the perfect vintage holiday table setting.

Each guest had a different view of the table with all the glitter and glass elements, but the overall look was subtle and soft with a distinct Christmas feel.

The beautiful decoration is a perfect gift for any guest and was definitely the talk of the table.

This color palette and style deviates from my usual design aesthetic, but I love how it all came together. I especially enjoyed using a simple element as the inspiration for a perfect tablescape.

For this section I chose to use a combination of metals so that I can pretty much go with many of my table decorations during the holiday season. We usually entertain at least once a week during the holidays, so I wanted to keep our color palette neutral.

It was a very simple process. First, I placed three Christmas trees randomly on the buffet (put the tallest one in the middle).

Second, I wrapped the Christmas garland around the base of the trees until it felt balanced. If you don’t have a working garland, you can use Christmas pics to create a similar look.

Next I used large hand blown gold glass ornaments for contrast and then the rest of the antique mercury glass ornaments (from HomeGoods).

Any type of ornament will work here with a distinct color palette that blends in with the rest of your decor.

Can I tell you how hard it is to take pictures of glass and mirrors without getting bombed?! I see myself in the glass ornaments in every close-up, so no guess who took these pictures. Enter smiley.
