Christmas Train Table Top Decoration – Everyone seems to be in a frenzy decorating for Christmas this year, and I’m no exception! I made my interior design plans and checked them. However, I notice that the coffee table sometimes takes a back seat on the interior design train. Every month my friend Cindy from County Road 407 posts a “mission impossible” challenge to recreate a pin from Pinterest.

Then we bloggers got to put together a look inspired by the original pin. Not interested in seeing an inspiration pin right now?
If you’re from my friend Paula of Sweet Pea, Virginia, you’ve already seen a beautiful presentation of this challenge. Isn’t her vintage coke can coffee table decor adorable?
This month’s inspiration was Jennifer from The Grace House Interiors. Jennifer shares her tour of a gorgeous Christmas home filled with farmhouse touches, including this vintage bust vignette.

I love the Chip and Joe Magnolia Chest. Carved Christmas trees and mixed berries are perfect in their simplicity.
Keeping Jennifer’s staples in mind, I created a similar centerpiece using ones I already own (or have made). Then I topped off the coffee table with a few other home decor items to complete the look.
For my coffee table, I decided to create a trio of things that were a little busier than usual. (I think I’m a little “over” Christmasy this year.)

The main theme of the coffee table was a rustic/woodland scene, so I incorporated a lot of natural elements into my display. Let’s cover each of them with the decorating idea I thought of.
Last month I shared a tutorial on making mini log houses. If you have a collection of objects or a special accent that needs to be highlighted, a glass cabinet is often suitable.
What I love about cloche domes is that they invite guests to take a closer look. It’s a scene within a scene.

In the spirit of this month’s challenge, I wanted to add a Christmas decorated coffin to the vignette. In a previous post, I talked about how I decorate a coffee table base to group together complementary pieces.
This wooden box was a gift from my late mother-in-law to my husband. I love the grooves and construction of this box and the simple latch on the front.
Tip: Partially fill a box or box with wrapping paper, newspaper, or raffia for added height and stability.

When the box was about halfway filled, I placed a small real cedar wreath on my trees.
Tip: Add a touch of green and mix real and artificial branches to add vibrancy to your coffee table decor.
I saw a tape that was for my husband to cut a new tree this year. The rest are bought from the store. Can you guess which one I did in the picture above?

To finish off the centerpiece, I added some faux pine branches, frosted berries and pine cones. So quick and easy!
You will notice that I paid attention to the display that the trees were taller than the other accents on the coffee table. I repeated the same berry stems above the Christmas tree in the background.
I have often noticed that adding a small decorative sculpture to the coffee table makes the room cozier and more comfortable. My deer sculpture added a nice touch to my woodland landscape.

Red decorations and books also brought a little color to the stage. The coffee table is always full of literature to enjoy.
The updated Christmas table list formed the basis of the entire coffee table display. It helped break up the wood textures and complement the neutral sofas, bringing the whole thing into harmony with the living room.
