Coffee Flower Table Decoration – Why spend money on spring table centerpieces from a florist when you can easily make them yourself?
I made this centerpiece with artificial flowers and branches, but this arrangement can easily be made using real things.

I love using real flowers, but using artificial means I can enjoy the arrangement all spring and enjoy it again in the future.

I’m still recovering from a February 10th brain craniotomy, so I set myself the challenge of making a spring table centerpiece using materials I had on hand.
Thank you to everyone who left me wonderful comments and prayers for my health on my blog post and on Facebook when I talked about my surgery.
For the container, I used a flower shop basket that originally held a peace lily. These cheap baskets look like these.

For the flowers, I used extra materials from previously made wreaths and stems from this spring wall decor I made a few years ago.
I hated tearing up my spring bucket wall decor, but I wasn’t allowed to drive, so tearing meant I would have more flowers for this spring centerpiece.
From the mid-1990s, it began to be made from artificial flowers. I have quite a few extra fake stems and flowers in my craft supplies.
Best Ways To Decorate A Coffee Table
Don’t miss the opportunity to see the rest of the spring coffee table decor. As always, I used interesting vintage things to decorate it.
First I gathered all the faux branches and flowers that I thought would work for this project along with the basket and oasis.
I didn’t use all of these materials, but I liked having all the stems I could use in my workspace.
My Recipe For Coffee Table Style With Traditional Decor
Instead of the oasis used for the fresh flowers, I had to use floral foam for the artificial flower arrangements. I didn’t have floral foam in my craft supplies, so I used the oasis I had on hand.
I keep an old steak knife in my craft cabinet just for cutting floral foam and oasis. I cut off a piece to fit in the basket.
This piece of Oasis was used for my Christmas table setting and I saved it after Christmas by tossing the greens into the compost heap.

Poussette willow branches were originally used for spring decor in this post and this post.
Fun fact: Our house had a giant model railroad in 1992 when Mr. SP bought our house. It was standing where the shelves you see in the background are. The workbench I work on is made using railed cabinets.
Here is a similar image from a higher angle. It is very difficult to see apple branches spread out on the table together with other branches.

In case you’re wondering, Mr. SP’s grandfather’s case and guitar that Mr. SP builds are behind the show.
Next I added the flowers. I don’t know the different names, but one looks like Queen Anne’s Lace and the other is a variety of viburnum.
Then I looked around the arrangement from all sides and angles and filled in the empty spaces with lots of flowers and branches.

I then took the new arrangement into our family room and displayed it in the center of my 1968 coffee table, using an antique cast iron plate as a tray.
I love the end result of this project, and I especially love the fact that I can easily make it by buying materials in the basement.

After taking a close look at the two coffee tables in our home, I realized that there are five main pieces of decor that I use all the time, and today I’m going to share table decoration ideas for each of them!

I always use a large tray on my coffee tables. Always. I love that they keep everything organized and if you want to take it off your coffee table to play a game or create a pantry, you can lift everything up with the tray lifter. Trays are also a great way to add a contrasting texture or color to keep things interesting.
For our coffee table in the family room, I chose a 28-inch square wooden tray that takes up most of the coffee table, but leaves room for legs to put your feet up (we put in a special “foot pillow” for this). – Lol!).

I had the hardest time finding a square tray with large handles that I loved, but I found the perfect one on Etsy. There is no store where I bought mine, but you can find an almost identical tray They come in a variety of velvet matte or glossy gloss. This large tray is expensive, but I will have mine for YEARS. I love that if I change my color scheme in the future, I can easily paint instead of buying a new tray.
I often use light embroidered trays on the ottoman/coffee table in the living room to add a little pop and texture. My favorite is the large size and great quality tray.
FYI, be sure to add felt pads to the bottom of the wicker trays to prevent them from scratching your coffee table. These are some other popular coffee table trays and they work great (
Minute Fall Vignettes
I use flowers and natural elements in my home because they add life like nothing else can, so it’s no surprise that this is one of my favorite coffee table decor ideas! In the summer, when we have lots of flowers in our yard, I put small bouquets of fresh flowers on our coffee table.
You can add more life and personality by placing your flowers in something special, like my brass planter (you can find similar planters and ) that I’m obsessed with:
If you don’t have cut flowers in your yard, buy a $5 package of tulips at the grocery store or, for a low maintenance option, add a plant. This snake plant that sat on the coffee table in our living room is the best – it really can’t be killed:

And I love that there’s a stack of books at the end of our coffee table—another way to bring nature into this space.
There’s no shame in sending a fax! I was shopping at Raspberry recently and the two of them made the cutest little arrangement.
And after I moved the snake plant, I use three branches of faux eucalyptus on the ottoman in the living room.
How To Choose The Best Coffee Table For Your Home
You can also use other natural elements to add life – a pine bowl, feathers or elements from the sea such as driftwood, shells and coral are just a few ideas. The best thing about natural ingredients is that there are so many right outside your door that you can find and use for free!
Books are another one of my favorite coffee table decor ideas. They’re perfect for adding a layered look, and it’s nice to have a few fun journal books for your family and guests to read. Since I’m a design lover, most of mine are (big surprise) design-oriented. Books about where you live, your favorite state or country, or your favorite hobby are another great choice.
You might also want to consider combining most of your phone and computer photos into one—these are future coffee table goals for me. And if you want to add a little color or pattern to your coffee table, the easiest way to do it is to use leftovers from your favorite fabric:

And if you love design like I do and are looking for great journaling books, here are a few that have great content inside and look beautiful on the outside (
Along with the books on the coffee table, I always add a book or two. This can be anything from a large gold lever (similar ones are available) that I used on top of my fabric-covered book to a decorative mirror like a single or small piece of coral.
This is a coffee table decoration idea that you can customize according to your style and needs. Here are some other ideas for fun book apps.
