Coffee Table Lounge Decor – I love beautiful coffee table decorations! When I took a close look at the two coffee tables in my house, I realized that there are five basic decor elements that I always use, and today I’m going to share each of these coffee table decor ideas with you!
I always use a large tray on my coffee table. Always. I love that they keep everything neatly in place, and if you want to free up your coffee table to play games or use for laying out food, you can remove everything by simply lifting the tray. Trays are also a great way to add contrasting texture or color to keep things interesting.

For the coffee table in our family room, I chose a large 28-inch square wooden tray that takes up most of the coffee table but still leaves room for my husband’s feet to pounce on (we keep a special “foot pillow” around to make with this – lol!):

I had the hardest time finding a square tray with a large handle that I liked, but ended up finding the perfect one on Etsy. The store I bought mine from no longer exists, but you can find an almost identical tray. They offer them in a wide selection of colors with a velvet matte or glossy sheen. The tray is so expensive but I will have mine for years. I love that if I change my color scheme in the future, I can just repaint it instead of buying a new tray.
On the ottoman/coffee table in our living room, I use a mostly lightweight wicker tray to add shine and texture. Here’s my favorite – a good size and great price per tray:

FYI, don’t forget to add felt pads to the bottom of the wicker tray to make sure they don’t scratch your coffee table! These are some other favorite coffee table trays that would work great (
I use flowers and natural elements throughout my home because they bring life like nothing else can, so it’s no surprise that this is one of my favorite coffee table decor ideas! In the summer, when we have a lot of flowers in our yard, I keep bouquets of small fresh flowers on the coffee table:
You can add even more life and personality to your flowers by placing them in something unique, like this Brass Swan planter of mine (you can find similar planters) that I adore so much:

If you don’t have cut flowers in your yard, buy a $5 bunch of tulips at the grocery store, or for even less maintenance, add a plant. This snake plant, which used to be on our living room coffee table, is the best – really unremarkable:
And I love that I even have them on the stack of books at the end of our coffee table – another way to bring nature into this space.
There’s no shame in being fake either! I recently purchased a Raspberry and the two agreed:

And after moving my snake plant, I use three of these fake eucalyptus branches (found) in my living room ottoman:
You can also use other natural elements to add life – a bowl of pine cones, feathers or elements from the ocean such as driftwood, shells and coral are just a few ideas. The great thing about natural ingredients is that there are so many of them that you can find and use for free!
Books are one of my favorite coffee table decorating ideas. They’re perfect for creating a layered look, while still being nice to have a few interesting books on the coffee table for your family and guests to pick up and read. Being a design lover, I mostly (big surprise) focus on design. Books about the area you live in, vacations in your favorite state or country, or favorite hobbies are other great options.

You might even consider getting a bunch of your phone and computer photos into one – that’s one future coffee table goal for me! And if you want to add color or pattern to your coffee table, an easy way to do it is to use scraps of your favorite fabric:
And if you’re a design lover like me and looking for good coffee table books, here are some of them with great materials on the inside and beautiful looks on the outside (
With several books on the coffee table, I always add a book or two. It could be anything, like the large gold levers (like the one I have) that I used on my cloth-bound book above, like a decorative magnifying glass, or a small piece of coral:

Decorative boxes are the best! There are so many cute options, and they’re great for hiding things you don’t want cluttering up your desk. On the coffee table in our family room is a spare TV remote, light remote, and my photo flash drive that I need all the time when I’m working on my laptop in the sectional:
Once you’ve got these essentials down, it’s time to have some fun and add a few whimsical things you like! For me, it’s often brass animals (#obsessed), like this pair of brass cranes (similar ones available):
