Crayon Table Decorations
Hello Crafty friends! A few weeks ago we celebrated our little ones’ birthdays with a colorful art party. When I asked my son what kind of party we should have, he said “a party of all colors of the rainbow!” and his sister agreed. I took her suggestion and implemented it by combining ideas I saw online for art and rainbow themed parties. I love making crafts for our parties, so I’ve added a bunch of fun DIY projects. The result is a lot of fun and a lot of color!
Fun + Creative Wedding Activity Ideas For Your Guests
Planning these small parties is a lot of fun for me. Since I’m homeschooling for preschool, I try to get the kids involved when I can. I included a party theme in our weekly craft activities, and they helped me create some decorations. We were learning “Food” for our preschool theme at home at the time, so they helped me choose fruits and vegetables according to each color of the rainbow. I made a fun shopping list for the party food and they helped me shop and check everything. They really love to help and get excited about the party!
Below are pictures from our party along with links to DIY craft projects and resources. I hope you have fun!
Every party starts with an invitation! For this party, I created the invitation card in Photoshop using Freepik stroke images and fonts

The food table, as in most of our parties, is the focal point. I find it easier to focus attention on one area of ββthe party than trying to decorate everything. It’s much more practical for both the time and budget that I spend on parties. For this food table, I made one of the giant paper pencils I made before for our craft area and replaced the word CREATE with MEMORY. I put the rainbow streamers in the back to hang to form a large screen behind the desk. Rainbow bubbles were added to the sides of the wall to fill in the extra space.
We fill our food table with all sorts of rainbow themed delicious food. We have rainbow fruits, rainbow vegetables and more! For the rainbow-themed fruit tray, we used strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, and purple grapes.
Our vegetable tray is designed to look like a color wheel and we were delighted to find purple cauliflower in our grocery store. Our alternative would be the purple onion, but this one is so much better! I made a creamy Italian vegetable gravy to go with vegetables using a great recipe from Six Sisters Stuff. The vegetables we use are radishes, red peppers, carrots, yellow peppers, green peppers, cucumbers, broccoli and purple cauliflower. You’ll notice that the green section is much larger than the others, but I wanted to include the green sections that I know are our favorites.
Diy: Rainbow Crayons!
Taco trays are always a big hit in our parties. I’ve done this a few times before and never left. I used the taco sauce recipe from AllRecipes. The taco tray comes in a variety of colors and we’ve added colorful tortillas to go with it!
The cheese platter was so much fun! To add some color to the tray, I made small cheese labels, with the name of each cheese, from colored paper and chopsticks and stuck them on the cheese balls.
All of our desserts come from the local grocery store and they look so good! In the past, I’ve loved trying to make desserts from ideas I found on Pinterest, but if it works, it either succeeds or fails. For this party I took some photos to the bakery in the supermarket and they were happy to recreate them. They even made me giant ice cream popsicles! It’s my favorite part of the party!

The cakes are made with thin wooden dowels, colored washi tape and little cotton balls to finish them off. I felt a little bad about making these the night before, but they turned out to be so cute! Since we received such small cakes, they helped add height! I generated the paper numbers with my Cricut π
The rest of the food table is decorated with a circular paper banner, colored paper pins I made, and lots of pretty cupcakes. On a small table next to the footstool, we set out paper plates and napkins.
In the end I didn’t photograph the whole party but there were four small tables and we covered each with a different colored plastic tablecloth and placed the same balloons on the table. You can see our red chart below; it had a red tablecloth, a red tin with red tissue paper that held the weight of the red balloons hovering above.
Kids Thanksgiving Table
*Update: From this party, I created a free printable rainbow birthday banner and a rainbow yarn garland that would be perfect for our artistic colorful birthday party. I wanted to share both in this post in case you find them useful for your own color themed parties!
No party is complete without a game! We played a number of party games, including musical chairs, which we played to my husband’s playlist of colored songs. Songs like “Purple Rain”, “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Yellow Submarine”. We also played beach volleyball (like hot potatoes, but with a colorful inflatable beach ball) and played a game of Rainbow Bingo that I created. Fruit is used to mark our table – a variety of colors and flavors that are safe for children.
We have game prizes like coloring books (for both adults and kids) and colorful candies in a big basket for winners to choose from. There are also small empty gift bags that the winner can use to choose one of the little oil paintings the kids have created and which they have placed around the room. The children made about 8 of these small oil paintings and displayed them on the table with balloons. Grandparents all go crazy over these things when they win a game. We made them before the party, but they would also be a great party activity!
How To Dye Easter Eggs With Crayons & Have Fun With It
One of my favorite DIY projects for our party are these crayon Twizzlers candy boxes that I created for party favors. Each box is filled with rainbow Twizzlers and all of them are placed in a basket for people to take with them on their way out. I fill up the boxes right before the party so the Twizzlers don’t harden, but if I had to do this again, I’d probably put each box in a clear food bag tied with a poly ribbon. color. This will make the Twizzlers last longer before they go awry, in case guests don’t eat them on the day of the party.
I love creating special party outfits for kids to wear to their birthday party. This year I made my daughter a colorful tutu in Rainbow Remix fabric by Anne Kelle. For my son, I made a t-shirt out of thermal vinyl and my Cricut. You can view free samples and tutorials and create your own Color Outside the Lines t-shirts!
We gave our kids art capes as birthday gifts and they absolutely loved them! They are made from fabric with their own artwork printed through a company called Contrado. I used the art gown pattern from oliver+s and I’m really pleased with their results. You can read more about the process of making these artistic capes!
Easy Diy Crayon Party Ideas For A Colorful Time
Our art party was so much fun and both the kids and all of our guests had a great time! It’s a great gender neutral party theme that my kids are excited about. The theme is also generic enough so I have plenty of documentation on hand and anything I buy is easy to find and affordable. The giant crayon is currently hanging in the kids craft area with new letters that say “Create” π
