I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by!! Christmas seemed like I just snuck in, even though I had been decorating since October!! One of my favorite things to decorate for the holidays is the table. I love the creative process of putting together a beautiful table setting for Christmas Eve. We won’t have guests this year, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy this simple table look with my family.

Christmas Eve is always the night we go to church and come home to a big Christmas party. We will be watching church online this year… but we are trying to make the rest of Christmas Eve seem as normal as possible. This simple Christmas table look will be perfect for the five of you. I know my two year old Oliver may not like this…he may not even sit at the table for very long. But starting these traditions with my family is very important to me.
Holiday Table Decorating Tricks: Using What You Have
Every year growing up, my mother did the same. When I was a little girl, I loved helping him set the table every Christmas Eve. I have so many fond memories of helping her pick out napkins, arrange the settings….and being a part of the process. I know my girls will one day!
A table doesn’t have to be over the top, just a few small touches can make a big difference. This year I used everything I already had. I did not use fresh flowers, instead I cut some branches from a cedar tree in my garden.
For this look I used a piece of cloth! I wanted a long runner that came off the table and the easiest way to get that was to cut some pretty fabric!

Plaid is such a fun pattern to use this holiday season. I found these green check napkins at Target a few years ago, and I use them all year long! I tied a red velvet bow around them and added a cedar branch for some extra greenery.
I always layer the plates to add more dimension. For this table, I used these red and gold tartan salad plates to bring in more color…and more red. I love the little red pop you can see under the music theme card.
