Hello friends! Today I’m sharing with you 5 tips on how to decorate accent tables like a pro and give you a little tour of our family room!
Decorators Tables
Accent table decorations can be a little tricky. It’s all about using baskets to close loose items and repeating accent colors throughout your room to make your tables look stylish and purposeful!
Best Dining Room Decor Ideas
Tip #1: Add a deep basket to your coffee table to hide the TV remote, organize your decor accents, and add texture and color to your room. Here I used a rattan basket that repeats the color of our hardwood floor (remember to repeat the color in a room to give it a “designer” look!). I put some of my decorating books, which I like to leaf through regularly, in the basket and crown my books with a white bowl filled with moss balls. The moss adds a nice touch of green (love that emerald shade of green!). I also added a ceramic jar and a gold octagonal paper punch.
Tip #2: Add flowers – fresh or artificial! Adding flowers to your tables is a wonderful way to decorate them and they will add softness and “life” to your room! This vase of tulips is an artificial arrangement (I usually use fresh tulips, but my local grocery store didn’t have any when I took this photo!). It’s perfectly fine to use artificial flowers as long as they look real – and many of today’s artificial flowers are very realistic! I always like to put my vases on a book or two – it makes it look cohesive with the table.
Tip #3: Add two table lamps to a console table to provide task lighting in a room, and increase the height to create a separate area in an open house. Our family rooms and dining rooms are open concept. I created two separate areas and separated the spaces to create a cozy look by attaching this console table to the back of our sofa. Two crystal lamps add light here (there are no overhead lights) and help separate the sofa from the family room from the dining room area.

Tip #4: Decorate a table next to a wall with tall objects like this tall vase of dogwood flowers. Adding a tall vase will soften the edge of the sofa and pull the wall art into a cozy and inviting grouping. If you have a large table lamp, that works too!

Tip #5: Adding a decorative console table to a staircase wall is a great way to decorate that awkward space! When decorating your console table, be careful not to block anything or bump into the stairs themselves! Add a vase with sprigs of flowers or flowers, display a piece of art and put a basket or two on the shelf under the console to store cushions and throws! Be sure to use two smaller baskets or one longer basket to fill the shelf space.

I added a non-slip vicar chair (with cushions and throw) and a garden stool to our stairwell area to create a cozy nook – the chair and garden stool can be pulled out when we need extra seating and an extra side table for company !

Columnist Alexandra Dudley shares a scene from a supper club she recently hosted in her personal outdoor space in London.
“Always invest in a good set of towels,” advises Dudley. “I love these classic whites from Linen Works as they go with everything.”
The worst thing about hosting a supper club is having to wash all the dishes afterwards. Dudley likes to use side plates for small salads and appetizers to save space in the dishwasher. Here it features subtle but elegant plates from Royal Copenhagen and Skandihus. Dudley made the tablecloth himself and found these vintage vases at an antique fair to keep the scene breezy and casual.
