I’m a big fan of origami (after all, I wrote an entire ebook about it) and even though I call these origami Christmas trees, they’re actually kirigami.
Trends For Christmas Decor In 2022
Kirigami is similar to traditional origami except that instead of folding the paper to create your design, you cut it as well. It’s usually made from a single sheet of paper, and since the folds are part of the finished piece, it’s three-dimensional like these trees.
My Origami Stars is another example of kirigami, but this time the finished model can be flattened or folded into a 3D shape.
Even though I call this project easy, they can be a little tricky at first (around step 7 and 8), but once you get the hang of it, they’re really quick and easy.

The more cuts you make, the more branches. Fold the branches to open your origami tree.

I recommend using origami paper for any paper folding project, the paper I used for these trees is thin scrapbook paper (not the light cardstock type) because standard origami paper only makes a small tree.
I used 12″ x 12″ paper for the large trees, 10″ x 10″ for the medium sized trees and 6″ x 6″ for the smaller ones.
