Do You Remove Decoration From Table When Eating – In this post: Autumn is a time for family, friends and fun! Here are some of our favorite fall table decorations and centerpiece ideas so you too can have a fall to remember.
When it comes to fall and Thanksgiving decorating, I think the dining room table should steal the show. We’ve graced many fall tables over the past decade. My favorites are layering, neutral color schemes and attention to detail. Here are some fall table decorations and centerpiece ideas that you can use in your home.

The first thing you need to know about creating a simple, beautiful table is that it really doesn’t take much effort.
Spring Centerpieces And Table Decorations
There are a few secrets I have up my sleeve for creating great table settings and I’m going to share them here.
Chargers are those ‘things’ you put on your plates. They can be made of wood, concrete or any material. You can find them at Michaels, Pier 1, Amazon and more.
I like to collect mine over time. A set here, another there. The one I’m using here is from Pier 1 and was a gift from Dean for my 40th birthday. (Yes, I always ask for housewares as gifts. I’m weird like that.)

If you collect chargers over time, you can take advantage of sales. The reason you have several sets of chargers is that even if you only have one set of dishes, you can change the look by switching out the chargers.
Another thing I like to collect over time are cloth napkins. Again, swapping these out can completely change the look of the table and they can be found on sale all the time. Some of my favorite napkin sets are actually from Indigo!
Tip: Make your napkins look fancier by layering them. I like to layer a patterned napkin over a plain napkin and thread it through a napkin ring. This eliminates the need for a lot of ironing or worrying about wrinkling!

One of my favorite ways to set a good table is to arrange plates and other dishes that look elegant with minimal effort.
I’ve put some of my favorite whiteware here with my grandmother’s gold rim china and some fun Rae Don dishes.
If you can, keep the centerpiece on the table at all times. It’s a way to make your schedule classy, even on a weeknight. If you can’t always spare it, keep it simple by weaving a seasonal wreath with fake fruit, or throw a bunch of store-bought flowers into a vase for whatever occasion you’re celebrating.
How To Properly Use Napkins At The Dinner Table
Just remember to keep it low so your guests can see each other. There is nothing worse than sitting at the table enjoying a meal together…and not being able to see who is sitting across from you!
Choose which colors to use by looking at Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration. Whether you want to use traditional fall colors or more muted tones, knowing the colors you want to use will help you choose everything else.
The centerpiece comes first in the table setting because it’s easier to build the rest of your beautiful table setting once it’s in place.

Tip: Use something long and narrow as a fall table centerpiece. Or a collection of things to create a long and narrow focal point.
Candles with which this happens in almost all seasons, but especially in autumn. They give so much character and warmth to a space.
As I mentioned, I’ve decorated many fall tables over the past decade for the blog. I used to share them all individually, but I decided to combine them into one post here for easy viewing.

When we first started this blog, my style was not fully developed. For the first time on that blog, I made a DIY table runner out of canvas, hand-lettered the words with a Sharpie, and then layered the table settings with inexpensive things I could find: stenciled Ikea placemats, wood-look chargers, white dishes, cheap white linens, wooden napkin rings on napkins and Baby Boo pumpkins.
It was very basic, but it worked at the time. Besides, I wasn’t worried about the kids – who were young at the time – destroying anything.
I’ve been craving simple tables and decor lately. So this is an updated version of the decade old table setting above.
How To Set An Informal Table: 12 Days Of Christmas Table Setting
I simply placed a few brass candlesticks in the center of our wooden table and then placed coasters, charter plates, folded napkins and a simple bowl at each place along with our copper flatware.
How do you decorate for fall – when you love bold and beautiful colors outside, but don’t want to bring those same colors inside? The answer is actually quite simple. Just use it
So when I planned this beautiful table as a place to share food with friends, I chose mainly shades of white and cream, with a little orange for accents and hints of green and gray to balance the arrangement. And as I always do, I mix in masculine rustic elements like ruffled coasters and soft faux flowers like twig and shingle wreaths.

A variety of tall sconces and low mercury glass votives also play to create a soft look on our rustic wooden table. While chargers for pastoral scenes, carved wooden napkins and white cotton napkins give the table a touch of French country house.
There were also some small and easy DIY craft projects for this tablescape – chalkboard-style bookmark cards and baby boo pumpkin glitter.
In this case, I made three wreaths of fake leaves, pumpkins, pinecones and berries, and then inserted various pieces of fake berries and other greenery. I added fake antlers, feathers, mini pumpkin candles, and of course, our wooden candle set. The centerpiece is filled in a little more in the middle and then closed to leave room for the place settings before it reaches the edge of the table.
How To Host Thanksgiving: 7 Simple Tips
For each place setting I used some chargers that my husband, Dean, bought me at Pier 1. Then I put in one of our white dinner plates from Birch Lane/Wayfair and a light green salad plate that I found at Homesense for Easter. Few years ago. Each setting is topped with a simple linen napkin on an ivory napkin ring.
The fun part of any setting is actually the gold colored flatware. Can you believe it’s plastic?! I know Not the best, but perfectly acceptable in photos and for a big family gathering! I found them at Michaels of all places.
Using staples collected over time, like white candles and some inexpensive greenery, in this case, eucalyptus from seed from a local florist, you can create a relaxing table with natural candles that will elevate your first indoor spring gathering without stress. Bit!

Spread two or three large log slices on the bottom of the kraft paper. Add coaster-sized pieces of logs here and there. No need to be fussy or special here. (My little log slices are actual coasters turned upside down!)
Now start attaching candles – pillars, swirls, cones, votives, etc. Let them all be white for unity. Change heights and shapes for interest, like me.
Carefully place the seeded eucalyptus branches/twigs around and in the center of the candle. Make sure that when you light the candles they are not near the flame. I think I’d rather have all the eucalyptus in one direction, which I don’t here. So you choose what you like best, random or inline.
Tips On Proper Etiquette At The Table
The centerpiece is often the star of the show when it comes to fall table decorations. Here are some ideas on what to use in your fall centerpieces, fall tables, and fall decorations in general:
Don’t get me wrong. If I had enough money and endless time, I think I would choose to use real flowers, greenery and fruit for all my tables!
As much as I love freshness, sometimes it’s a bit frustrating to spend all that money, only to have the entire table wilt in one day. Of course, if I only plan one specific meal, that’s fine. But if I want my centerpieces to last a little longer into the season, for my family to enjoy even after I’ve taken the photos, that short life isn’t so much fun.
How To Update Your Wood Dining Table
If you’re not creating your tablescapes for a magazine or blog, it’s not as important to you as it is to me. But since I put together vignettes and centerpieces to share on blogs, magazines, and books, I can’t always rely on seasonal items. For example, this week I saw a real pumpkin in the store for the first time. And even then, the choice is limited only by weather and harvest time. But I had to make this landscape and photograph it last week.
