A cocktail and appetizer party is a great way to entertain during the holiday season because it can be a lot lighter than a sit-down meal.
But planning is always key to any event, ensuring that guests not only have a great time, but also enjoy the party. Here are some tips and tricks on how to throw a chic and light sparkling cocktail and party!
The first thing I usually do is make a guest list. This determines the food I serve, the quantity and of course the location of the entertaining space. Don’t neglect music, seating and coat space, not just where your guests will hang out.
Christmas Table Decorations & Place Settings
Over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests stand, mingle and move around the dining table. That’s why it’s important to maintain a perfect flow!
I also like to add a theme or color scheme to all my parties. I think it makes the party complete and adds sparkle to this time of year! But there’s no need to go OTT with the decor. Your home is probably decorated for Christmas and the holidays, so go easy on your existing color scheme!
This year our colors are silver and blue. Silver is the new gold, so we’re happy with the shiny trend 😉
Designing Dessert Tables Best Tips & Advice (with Photos)
For parties with cocktails and appetizers, it is better to spread the food on different tables. I plan my tables at least a few days in advance so I have a table to show where the food and drinks, coasters, napkins, etc. go. I have a lot of time to prepare.
For this party, we had a large main table that guests could access from all sides, a separate bar or drinks room, and an area near the gift window that we decorated with soft cushions, a cozy throw and other touches blue – colorful festive decoration. I love this corner of the studio because it doubles as a photo booth!
We also partnered with Mosaic who supplied all the beautiful tableware for cocktails and snacks. I love how chic their products are and was inspired by all the beautiful disposable tableware (hello, easy to clean!) in shiny silver.

To create an interesting dessert display, we created different levels on the table using silver mosaic panel lights and a table pedestal. The plates can be glued with glue dots from the bottom to secure them.
To decorate and present the food and make it more appealing to the eye, Mozaik cutlery, tableware and small dishes were used. This trick with different heights is used by all party planners at any table! 😉
For a cocktail bar or beverage station, it’s a great idea to offer a large portion of the cocktail to make the host’s job easier. Guests can serve themselves, which means you don’t have to serve a lot of drinks. We served sparkling citrus sangria (recipe coming later this week) and prepared an ice bucket filled with champagne and other goodies for guests to play mixologist with (one less job for you!).

The bar decor was also very simple! I love using mirrored trays on my holiday tables because it adds instant sparkle to an ensemble. We also made good use of Mozaik champagne flutes and glassware for delicious cocktails! How gorgeous do they look?!
Love is in the details, but you don’t have to spend hours creating party decor! We used tin foil and mini Christmas ornaments to make glittery lollipop stick drink stirrers. It basically took 5 minutes. But don’t forget you can invite family members (kids love it!) if you need time 😉
Behind the bar table we hung a gorgeous yet super easy to make bottle garland (DIY tutorial coming soon) which added lots of sparkle and shine!
Easy Holiday Appetizer Recipes With Easy To Do Christmas Decorations
My motto for weddings is make some, buy some. Food is no different. Again, there’s no need to create a complicated menu or spend hours in the kitchen. In fact, if you can opt for pre-made recipes (like the ones below), you’ll greatly reduce your stress levels and thank yourself later!
I usually aim for about 7-10 slices or servings per person in the first hour of the party, 5 more in the second hour after that, and 3 each hour after that. Also, don’t forget to accommodate vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements or allergies (ask in advance).
For this cocktail and appetizer we bought mostly spreadables like nuts, chips, olives, veggies… and made a great charcuterie and cheese plate with great fruits, veggies, and a variety of crackers. We used a large wrought silver tray from Mosaic as a plate and I love it!
Holiday Meal And Decor Pairings
For the buffet labels, I simply printed out a round circle with the names of the appetizers and adhered it to a glitter circle punched out of card stock. Easy or what?!
To round out the dessert menu, we served salmon crostini, a must-have in our house for the holiday, along with sweet treats (all store-bought) including macarons, German ginger cookies, and delicious homemade citrus treats served in wine glasses Mosaic.
Prepare hot dishes the day before, like delicious Italian Polpettines and Asian Crab Cakes with Chili Jam, and reheat them during the day. Check out the delicious recipes below!

Mix all ingredients (except oil and garnish ingredients) in a bowl until well combined. Make golf ball shaped balls and fry until golden brown on all sides. Drain on kitchen paper. Serve in small Mozaik appetizers with a few tablespoons of tomato sauce (recipe below). Top with parmesan and chopped parsley using the Mozaik Mini Snack Set.
Heat the oil in a large pot and fry the garlic and onion until soft. Add red pepper and fry for a few minutes. Add tomatoes, tomato puree and ketchup. Add a cup of water if needed. Stir and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened. Add tomato ketchup and parsley and simmer for another 5 minutes. Season to taste. Store in the refrigerator, then reheat before serving.
Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for 30 minutes to set slightly. Shape into 1 inch round patties, dust with flour and fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on kitchen paper and serve with the chilli jam from the Mozaik Snack Mini Set.
