Decorating Christmas tables can sometimes seem a little overwhelming. Our house has a comforter table, a chest, a small wooden table and a mantel all in the same open space. I knew that creating vignettes for each of these things would have to be something I had to feel comfortable with, especially around the holidays. And so I’ve come up with three steps that I use every time I approach such areas. I hope they will be useful for you too.

. She has tons of wood sign options if you want a modern farmhouse look like this. Other examples of inspiration pieces include mirrors, artwork, and architectural works. You want it to have the height as well as the “look” you want for the entire table you want to model after. Think about its colors, texture and size. I started by placing a wreath on top of the shield to give it more height, with a basket full of pillows underneath.

Christmas Décor, Come On In!

Find two identical pieces and place them on either side of the inspiration piece. I used these frosted trees that I’ve had for a while. You don’t want these pieces to be larger than the inspiration piece. Think of the inspiration piece as standing on top of an invisible triangle on your table. Now draw lines as if forming a triangle from the wooden sign to the trees.

Now it’s time to fill everything in. As you can see, I enjoyed adding a few pieces, but if you prefer, feel free to add a small vignette in the center of the table. As you fill in the space between your two symmetrical pieces, consider adding different heights and textures. Textures can include glass (like this amazing smelling Christmas candle), wooden objects, metal and greenery. To complement the center vignette, I used some edgy pieces like the candlesticks.

The Christmas vignette has different heights and textures in the center and uses the rule of decorating with odd numbers (ie 3, 5, etc.). I simply placed two artificial Christmas tree pots on a wooden stand. I then added a little Christmas sign to finish off the odd number pairing. It’s very easy friends. First, I started what I call the “base” for each shelf: greenery and/or cranberries. I found both of these fake versions at target. You have a wide variety of wreaths depending on your style. I always recommend having a base when designing a table and/or console table. It helps fill space and create a foundation to build on. 😉 Then I added two of my favorite things to decorate a farmhouse Christmas room, wooden signs and faux trees (green and wood). See below for my favorites. If I haven’t linked a specific product, it’s because it’s old and/or sold out, but I’ll share similar options.
