Once you have your table, the first step is to figure out a color scheme for your coffee table books. You can go for coffee table books with earthy, neutral covers, or maybe dark tones and just one vibrant book that stands out from the crowd. The possibilities are endless!
Once your color palette is established, it’s time to consider the theme of your coffee table books. Will it be books about architecture, fashion or travel? I prefer coffee tables not to have random novels piled up with no rhyme or reason. If possible, make a trip for your guests and pick a topic or two that interests you, then stick to it. After all, don’t you want to spend your precious budget on books you never want to pick up and read? As for me, my coffee table is full of interior design books, but it could be anything!

Sometimes the jackets might not be the coolest or worse, they ruin the look and feel with a bright neon cover. When you see a full-scale hardcover book, take off the jacket. You may be surprised to see what lies beneath. When it’s cool, just remove the jacket cover and display the books in their natural forms on the coffee table. They will be much easier to design this way and are often prettier too. The look is completely luxurious.

Make sure that the books on the coffee table are stacked in a systematic order. Larger books go on the bottom because they provide a stable structural base. Then arrange the pile of books on the coffee table like a pyramid with the book size going down as you go up. Feel free to stack books of the same size. When can you start arranging the books so that the colors complement each other, that shouldn’t be too difficult since you’ve already chosen books in a specific color scheme (good thing we planned ahead!). Don’t forget that 3 or 4 looks best.
Also please keep it simple with the stack of books on the coffee table as you don’t want to clutter up your space. Remember that the coffee table still needs to be functional, and often less is more. If you overload a surface with too many books, there will be no place to put your feet up or put your mobile phone and TV remote, and it will quickly feel cluttered. Just three books can make a difference.
Remember, you don’t want it to be a beautiful aesthetic. It should be beautiful to look at, but still useful, so the key word here is

There are other things you can place on top of the table or even on the stack of books as a finishing touch. Placing a scented candle as a decorative piece can really take things up a notch by adding more dimension and scent appeal. Doesn’t it also feel very cozy when you see strategically placed candles in a home? In my experience, smaller candles look best over large books, but don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works best for you. I also love curiosities – this little copper bowl and the stylish items create a fun charm that I want in all my spaces.

Coffee Table Decorating Ideas
When choosing coffee table books, I look for books that are at least 9-10 inches long so they have some weight and bulk and are large enough to hold a decent accessory. You never want your accessory to swallow up your book so that the book gets lost in your design. And, when I stack my books, I like the graduation from bottom to top to be no more than 1-2 inches smaller than the book below… if the book or books above are much smaller than the one below (without nice , even a graduation), end up more like an afterthought than a well thought out design.
