Painted gold dots can be a bit of a problem, as the paint tends to hold the thread in place. If all the string doesn’t come out, use your ripper to pull the string where it breaks and continue the process. Once the string is out, you’ll have a perfectly straight line. Cut along this line, being careful not to cut above or below the lines. Continue this step on all four sides. At this point, your running is stopped. Next, you’ll want to prep your fabric for the fusible belt that will iron its look. Let’s start with the two shortest sides. To do this, fold the burlap so that the pattern faces. Using your fingers, fold the fabric edge over by one inch. Place the tablecloth over the fabric and iron the seam. The use of towels is essential with this particular fabric. If the iron comes into direct contact with the gold spots, the varnish will spread out and be transferred to your iron. (Trust me, it’s not pretty.) Once you’ve sewn a seam, you’ll want to place the fuse between the two layers of fabric. Again, cover with the towel and with the iron on medium-high heat for about 5-7 seconds. Repeat this step until both layers are joined together. Then do this for the other short side. Once the two short sides are complete, you’ll repeat the previous two steps with the longer sides. To lessen the bulk of the fabric in the corners, when completing the longer sides, cut a piece of fabric in the corner diagonally. Once all the edges are done, quick iron the runner (don’t forget to cover it with a parrot) and you’re done!
