Inspiration came the moment I brought food to the house. We live in Charleston, South Carolina and have a magnolia tree in our front yard. Magnolia trees have broad, glossy green leaves with rust-brown undersides, making them a favorite for southern wedding decorations and lowland holiday parties. Why not add something to the front of the beautiful garden?

I like to hunt and use what’s around me, but you can recreate Christmas decorations with a variety of plants that grow anywhere. Loquat leaves are the same size and perfect for card stock. Boxwood and pine also make beautiful flowers. And variegated pittosporum (a popular hedge choice) can be stunning.
If you want to add to your flower supply (which will kill the magnolia if you don’t harvest too much), choose something that can be recycled and dried easily, like baby air or eucalyptus.
