Over Table Decoration Rod – I have a very clever party decoration to share with you today, but first… Hi everyone, I’m Anke! Peony season is here and it’s one of the best times of the year, don’t you think? Germany is one of our biggest and most sacred flower seasons (here it is called Pfingstrose and different shades of pink are the most popular types found elsewhere and one of the flowers for a very small amount). florists, gardens and farmers markets, they will be at my house again! The same goes for the coach, who is also in season. Yum!
When I decorate with peonies, my table is almost always romanticized with soft colors. It’s clear who’s playing the lead role in the series of photos below — Miss Peony! For my table, I chose four varieties of peonies in white and pale pink, with a hint of yellow inside. I’m not sure about the name of this, but maybe you can help me if you have time. Also, here is a list to identify different peons in English.

As an added bonus, I ordered the “Tafelklem” (*Dutch for “table binding”) online from Deens – and oh my! How good is this idea? Holly has one of these, she saw this idea in a very popular Dutch design magazine called VTWonen and swore she must have it but she hasn’t used it yet.

Is it available in your country? What would you add to yours? I was wondering if you could buy bricks and DIY something like this? Hmmmm. Luckily, Deens ships to Germany so I ordered from their website. There are so many creative ways to use this, it’s definitely one of my favorite finds when it comes to table decor.
The first time I used a tablecloth, I printed out some pictures of peonies and flowers on heavy paper to then hang the pictures on the shelf (especially using a napkin pattern to photocopy it). This small picture glass is paired with a small hanging glass bottle with a large peony flower and some white raffia attached to one end of the stem.
For example, you see one of my favorites on this table. It’s called “dusty green flora” from the Danish beauty house brand, Bungalow. I made four napkins by sewing them together from two printed kitchen towels. The leaves were a little more like peony leaves, right?

What else? Yes – a delicious buffet for invited guests! For my June table (named after my family and neighbors after the shoot) I made “Coconut Pie in a Jar”. coconut/zwieback, mixed with melted butter and wrapped in small heatproof jars. I filled it with the cheese mixture of your choice (maybe use a little coconut syrup?) and baked it according to the recipe (mine went into the oven for 20 minutes / 180° high and low heat). Nigella Lawson’s Rhubarb & Ginger Compote (from Simply Nigella’s book) was my favorite with zwieback crumble and fresh mint! Bon appetit! 🙂
I wish you a nice, warm and colorful first day of summer and I can’t wait to see you here at decor8 again in July!- Anke
