When we moved into our new house last year, the living room was the room I worried about decorating the most. We bought a sofa for our old house, but it took so long to arrive that it was sent to the new house.

Fortunately, I like the novelty of this room. (I brought a tape measure from home that looks like it will fit). And I was surprised that my beloved Everett console table fit perfectly under it! I love our new living room on the first floor, which is a lot less open space than we had before.
Long Sofa Tables To Go Behind The Couch
But the new challenge for me is how to create a console table behind the sofa and in the middle of the room. It should be functional (with light for reading) and beautiful (duh!) and not feel like it’s the wall in the middle of the living room.
I’ve pretty much styled it one way since it was created, but I decided to play around with some other styles and found 3
Also in style! So I thought I would tell you if you have a console table behind your couch! These home decorating ideas are also suitable for any room!
How To Decorate The Back Of A Couch — The Decor Formula
So what do you do differently when fixing a table than when pushing it off the wall? First, you don’t want to fill the table with a bunch of advanced stuff because then you can’t see it.
So keep that in mind when creating these. For example, when I built this console table against the wall in my old house, I put a large picture in the middle. But it won’t work in this situation.
Although each pattern is slightly different, I like to incorporate at least one of each of these elements into my decor when decorating any horizontal space.
How To Decorate Your Living Room With Gorgeous Sofa Tables
Shaping things symmetrically is probably my favorite way to decorate, but it doesn’t always please my eyes. I just thought it was easy. So, this model is the one I used the most on our console table behind the sofa.
It includes my favorite two lamps on either side of the table, then a short stack of books and accessories in the middle. A small brass turtle on top of the books to bring an organic fertilizer.
The fake plants on the right and the quilt coming over the edge of the basket in the bottom left give enough asymmetry to make it feel a little more interesting and less “plain Jane”.

Then underneath I have two of my favorite console baskets. This is a very simple but classic style and we use this lamp every night when the sun goes down to create warmth in our living room.
For this look, I kept two baskets on the bottom, but removed one light. It still needs to feel balanced with the height(ish) on the right side, so I moved the pile of paper under my faux spider plant to give it a little height.
Then I added the organic image of this dried fruit branch. It not only attracts interest but is small enough to be noticed.

I think I like this one the best, but we like having two lamps on the table for lighting. But if I were to change our current setup, I would change it to this! 😊
I removed a basket and added some decor in it. I love how this dish brings the 3 items below left together.
The limestone knot pattern at the base adds organic interest. And the tray on the table can act as a door for keys or remote control. If your console table is near the door, you will need a tray for everyday items.

See how I left it by placing a large lamp on one side and a large basket on the other? It would have looked funny if the two bigger things were just next to each other.
If you don’t want or need baskets, I want to share a way to decorate your console table without them! At the top I also put a tray for the remote if you need it.
Moving the light to the outside of the table also allows for a clearer view! Do what works best for your living room design.
