Pig Pickin Table Decorations
Pig Pickin Table Decorations – We’ve been working in the backyard for several weekends in a row getting ready for summer and the pig roast we’re hosting this weekend. It rained most of last week, but Saturday was sunny. My husband has wanted to make a pig roast for years, but the logistics in our city just haven’t worked out. Now that we’ve moved to the suburbs, we have a nice setup in our backyard. We hired Big Pig Barbecue & Catering after pricing some “pig roasts” in the Boston area.
A few hours before the event, a large van pulled up, towing a large grill with a sign emblazoned on the side:

These guys did a great job setting up the large grill and banquet table while we continued to get ready for the party. Sister M came to visit us for a few days and she was very helpful in helping us watch Baby T and helping us set everything up. She also made a cute blue and green sign in the photo below.

I bought some outdoor party decorations at Home Goods…they have a great selection of table runners, tablecloths, galvanized buckets, outdoor pillows, cocktail napkins, and citronella candles. I try to stick to the blue and green theme. My husband bought me Mother’s Day flowers a day earlier, so they were both party decorations and gifts for me.
When guests arrive, the kids are in the backyard playing with some of the toys I set up (balls, pool noodles, bubbles, etc.). One of our guests brought a bounce house that they took with them and it was a huge hit with all the kids. I used the duck K from the hurricane party to keep the juice boxes on ice for the kids (that duck definitely walks around!):
Our Big Pig Man was served about an hour after our guests arrived, ready to start after the pig’s little show (which my husband loves):

I had hoped that the roast pork would be good, but I was blown away by every dish – baked beans, pasta salad, coleslaw, cornbread, and of course the pork was amazing. I didn’t get a chance to try the rotisserie chicken the day of the party, but I had some left over from yesterday, which was also delicious. I was able to freeze some leftover pork from our piglets so we can continue to enjoy the meat over and over again.
Since most of the food was already prepared by the big pigs, I just wanted to make something small for the party. I decided to make a signature cocktail and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. It was very warm, so I decided to make a red wine sangria for the event’s signature cocktail. I searched for several recipes, found one that resembled authentic Spanish sangria, and tweaked it to make this recipe:
