The rehearsal dinner is a great opportunity to add those little touches that are special to the happy couple and help tell their story. I’m sharing the decorations for the rehearsal dinner, the DIY dinner decorations we made for the main rehearsal with Andrew and his beautiful fiancee, Charlotte.
The evening before the wedding, there are rehearsal dinners (nowadays sometimes welcome parties). When we hosted our son Andrés’ rehearsal dinner, I wanted everyone at the dinner to feel how much they mean to us in an atmosphere that welcomes everyone in the wine region.
From Casual To Formal, What Is Your Rehearsal Dinner Style?
The bride, Charlotte, and I spent some time in Napa scouting locations for our rehearsal dinner. I knew I wanted to visit Merivale Vineyards and see the barrel room. My brother has been married to my best friend for over thirty years. Their wedding was in Napa and their rehearsal dinner was in Merivale. I had great memories of the Barrel Room and hoped it would be as special as I remember it. We both loved it the moment we walked in and knew it was the perfect venue for their rehearsal dinner.
Before I get into the details of the rehearsal dinner, let’s take a step back in time to Andrew and Charlotte’s engagement party.
You remember when we threw an engagement party for Andrew and Charlotte. It was held in our garden and I have written many times about the engagement party. It was a special night and I had so much fun planning and hosting the party. Of course, this meant I had to make something even more spectacular for the rehearsal dinner.
Beautiful Easter Tablescape
I have to say that the engagement party was an amazing party. I built the frame for the outdoor dining room (with the help of my sons), the tablecloths, the flower arrangements, the place settings.
I started planning the event and planning the rehearsal dinner to come up with all the decorations needed. I chose the linens, chose the candelabra, and decided to make the centerpieces, place cards, and menu cards.
It took me a while to decide the flower decorations for the table. I decided that I wanted to make all the flowers for the flower arrangement.
The Most Awesome Rehearsal Dinner Centerpieces Of All Time
Of course I considered it, but I wanted to take my mind off this evening. So I decided to make a paper flower. Making over 100 paper flowers was literally a labor of love. I’m so glad I did!
Here is a sample of flowers I made with crepe paper. Aren’t they beautiful? They are all homemade and I only made a few flowers for the centerpieces. There were others!
Pictured above are peonies, gerbera daisies, carnations, poppies, hydrangeas, ranunculus, and more. Do you think they look like they are made of paper?
Of The Coolest Rehearsal Dinner Ideas Ever
First of all, I would never have been able to make more than 100 paper flowers without the Cricut Maker Machine. This special Cricut machine cuts crepe paper. And it made my life so much easier.
I used the pattern and ‘cut file’ from the very talented Leah Griffith. I have been a member of your monthly subscription for one year. A membership is about $8 a month and gives you access to every cut flower pattern for every flower you make. I just uploaded the cut files to my computer and Cricut Maker Machine did the rest.
Here are several items that I used to make my crepe paper flowers. Lia Griffith also has a template for making rose or peony flowers if you don’t have a Cricut machine.

This is how the petals look after being cut on the crickets. I can’t even imagine trying to cut these hydrangea petals by hand! And each hydrangea flower has forty petals.
I cut flower petals and leaves for about a week. I placed all the flowers in ziplock bags so that several parts of each flower were separate from the other.
I can’t even imagine how many hours I spent making all these (more than 100) paper flowers. I cut flowers for a week and then made them over three weeks. But it was so worth it.
How To Decorate A Dinner Table Like A Professional
I also went to the Los Angeles Flower Mart where I found these beautiful vases for sale.
I decided to add fresh greenery to my flower arrangements. On my way to Napa, I stopped at a flower shop and bought lots of fresh greenery (mainly eucalyptus) for vases.
My son Matt helped make the printed pieces for dinner. You can see the menu cards and place cards in the table below.

And I love my wine themed idea for place cards. Matt and Michael cut slots in all of the plugs to accommodate place cards.
Aren’t these place cards fun? We gently slide the place card into each plug. It worked perfectly.
The morning of the rehearsal dinner, I arranged the flowers at my hotel. It took me less than two hours and I loved doing it. Every flower means a lot to me!
How To Throw An Unforgettable Rehearsal Dinner
I started by filling each cavity with an oasis of flowers. I added flowers and greens and added water to the vases because the greens needed to stay fresh.
