You all have no idea how hard it was for me! We all love our comfort zones. Deep burgundy, sunset orange and blush apple are not my usual colors, but they are the colors of autumn.

In our family, we celebrate the official Thanksgiving at my mom’s house. It is still decorated in traditional colors, filled with small pilgrim salt and pepper shakers and all possible nostalgic things. Our Thanksgiving is usually 17+ people though (and that’s just family!). I grew up spending Thanksgiving with a foreign castle. As it should be! My parents shamelessly invited friends and enemies to our home. They were amazing in their love for people and opened their home to anyone who needed comfort.
I wish I was as free and open as my parents. These days we all get together as a family, but I’m trying to do a semi-Thanksgiving with my family during November just for our immediate family of 6. Hey…you can never have enough turkey!
Use what you have in your yard! I cut some random maple branches growing in our yard to use as fall decorations. Free decorations are the best!

Instead of serving pumpkin soup this year, I filled a pumpkin soup bowl with grocery store chrysanthemums, daisies, and bouquets of fall flowers. Taking a combination of grocery store bouquets and cutting your own yard will always make a beautiful centerpiece!
