The inspiration for this arrangement comes from two places. First, our upcoming trip to visit our daughter who studies in Tuscany, and second, the Italian recipe salad plates we were gifted a while back. I only had four plates initially and they weren’t available from the store, but when I decided to build an arrangement around them, I did a successful eBay search for the rest of the place settings. As usual, I started with an interesting element and built a colorful story and details around it.

Burlap tablecloths and terracotta linen napkins add a rustic rustic feel. A little sparkle from antique silver flatware and bejeweled napkin rings completes the experience.

I never use place cards to seat my guests at intimate dinners because I want them to choose their own seating, but I love the opportunity to use printed graphics on the table, so I designed settable cards as a fun detail to further communicate the theme.
A pair of floral arrangements are placed in distressed Tuscan-inspired vases. Orange roses and red dahlias work with greenery to tell the story of the Italian countryside through color.
Glassware and crystal accents help give the dinner an elegance that plays off more simple country elements.

Decorating with food is always my favorite. Here, glass swirls are filled with a variety of tomatoes and grapes, another nod to the Mediterranean available throughout Italy.
The long view from the table opens to the adjacent living room where pre-meal drinks are served.
